How to File a Complaint With the Attorney General's Office

The attorney general is the chief lawyer of the United States government; he is the head of the United States Department of Justice. The attorney general is not an elected official, but rather one that the president appoints to office. While the attorney general himself works in Washington D.C., every state has its own attorney general's office. If you have a complaint to file with the attorney general, you need to file the complaint with the A.G.'s office in your state; the complaint process differs slightly from state to state. Contact your state attorney general's office for more information regarding the process.

Go to the website of your state's attorney general's office to file a complaint. Locate the link to file a complaint online. Provide your name, contact information, address, the details of your complaint, and the name and information of the person or business you are filing your complaint against. Give the A.G.'s office as much information as you can regarding your complaint.

Write a letter to file a complaint and mail it to the attorney general's office in your state. Provide your name, contact information, address, the name of the person or business you are filing a complaint against and the nature of the complaint.

Call the attorney general's office to file your complaint. Provide the necessary information regarding the complaint and detail the complaint itself for the employee in the A.G.'s office to file. Once you file your complaint, it is reviewed and you will be contacted.
