How to Find a Good Bankruptcy Lawyer in North Carolina
Struggling with debt can be very stressful. Relief is available, but it may involve procedures you are unfamiliar with. One common form of debt relief is bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is federal in nature, but states often have subtle nuances in terms of exemptions and filing timelines. If you live in North Carolina, and you need to file bankruptcy, it is in your best interests to find a good bankruptcy attorney in your state.

Use a lawyer referral service, word of mouth or the North Carolina bar directory (see Resources) to find attorneys in your area who specialize in bankruptcy. Write down the name, address, phone number and email of at least five attorneys in your area.
2Contact each attorney, and schedule a meeting with them. Inform the attorney's secretary or paralegal that you are interested in hiring a bankruptcy attorney but that you are currently shopping around.
3Ask the attorney about his knowledge of bankruptcy law and the nuances in North Carolina. A good bankruptcy attorney knows the state exemptions and understands any local procedural rules he has to follow in a North Carolina bankruptcy court.
4Avoid bankruptcy "mills." According to MSN Money Central, bankruptcy mills handle many cases and just try to do the bare minimum for clients. In your interview, discuss how many cases the attorney has pending and how many bankruptcies the attorney has handled in North Carolina.
