How do I Find Real Estate Transfers in Desoto County, Mississippi?
Until the advent of the Internet, a lawyer, paralegal or intrepid lay person had to pore over giant ledgers in the basement of the county courthouse to find records of who sold what property to whom. In most jurisdictions today, records of real-estate transfers can be searched for online. DeSoto County, Mississippi, has a free online search index and in many cases you can download the documents. Because not all records are available online, it may also be necessary for you to go to the Chancery Clerk's office in person to search the Land Records Index.
Instructions
Online Searches of DeSoto County Land Records

Log on to the DeSoto County, Mississippi, public records inquiry website at desotoms.info and click on the button labeled "Chancery Clerk."
2Click on either the "Search by Grantor" (the name of the person who sold or gave the property to another) or "Search by Grantee" (the person who received the property) button to search by name. This will take you to the "Records Index Inquiry" page.
3On the Records Index Inquiry page, choose the type of document that you want from the pull down menu marked "Docket." Then type the name of the party you are looking for in the appropriate box.
4To search both parties' names simultaneously (if, for example, you are not sure whether a name belongs to the grantor or grantee), from the Chancery Clerk's page click on "Combined Party Search." Choose the button that corresponds to the type of document that you seek and proceed as outlined above.
5Narrow your search results by using the "Since (File Year)" box, if you know the approximate date for the records you wish to search.
6When you see the document description you need, click on "Display" and you should see a description of the document, along with a link to download an image of the document in Portable Document Format.
7If you have the Docket Book and Page number for the document you are looking for, click on the "Search by Docket/Book/Page" button on the Chancery Clerk's page. If your book and page numbers are correct, the document you are searching for should be described there, along with a link to download an image of the document in Portable Document Format.

Go to the Chancery Court clerk's office, located in room 5 of the DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando, Mississippi. The clerk's staff may give you general assistance, but the staff is prevented by law from searching for the records for you.

9Find the index you wish to use (Grantor, Grantee, e.g.) and look up the records by name to find the book and page number for the document.
10If you already have the book and page number for the document that you are looking for, you do not need to consult the index. Simply find the document using the book and page number that you already have.
