How to Figure Child Support in Texas

In Texas, the Child Support Division of the Office of the Texas Attorney General enforces child support laws. The Child Support Division also provides free services to any parent wishing to obtain or provide support for their children. Using an online calculator by the Child Support Division, any parent in Texas can figure a projected child support payment.

Instructions

Navigate to the Child Support Division of the Attorney General of Texas' website and access the interactive child support calculator (see Resources).

Read to the bottom of the page, noting the financial and personal information you will be required to enter. Collect this information from your records. For easy reference, write this information down in the order in which it appears in the online calculator.

Input your data into the online calculator form. Dollar amounts must be entered without dollar signs or other symbols. If you have already been ordered to pay child support by a Texas court, enter that amount under "Current Child Support." If you do not currently have a court-ordered obligation, enter "100" as a place holder.

Click "Calculate Projected Obligation" at the bottom of the page. This will return a results page. Find the dollar figure corresponding to "Projected Monthly Child Support Obligation." Assuming no extenuating circumstances, this is what you will be obligated to pay under the Texas Family Code.
