How to Become Notary Public

A notary public is an official of integrity. She is capable of administering oaths and certifying signed documents. Sign up for a written notary examination. Bring your government-issued ID and the required exam fee. Finish the examination within the allotted time period, usually one hour, and turn in your test according to the proctor's instruction. Notary exams are offered in various locations throughout your state and the notary regulating agency will have more information about the particular location of upcoming examinations.

Submit paperwork to the agency regulating notaries, typically the Secretary of State or Division of Corporations.
