Do-It-Yourself: Limited Power of Attorney Forms
A limited power of attorney gives a person the right to do specific things for a period of time for another person. The powers vested in the power of attorney may cover a variety of topics including banking transactions, purchasing or selling real estate and many more. While it is advisable to use an attorney to complete a power of attorney, it is not necessary. Limited power of attorney forms are easy to find and complete.

Obtain a limited power of attorney form. These forms can be purchased online or through stores that sell legal documents including some office supply stores.
2Read through the form carefully before filling it out. The form either needs to have the sections available to enter in the specific items that the power of attorney is to convey or have pre-listed items. Pre-listed items that are unwanted should be marked out and initialed by all parties.
3Fill out the form completely, without completing the signatures. There should be no blanks left unfilled. If a section of the form has blanks but does not apply to your situation, cross the section out and initial that section.
4Get the power of attorney notarized. Common places to get items notarized are financial institutions like banks and credit unions or the post office. There may be a small fee for notarizing the form. The notary will witness the signatures of all participants and complete the bottom sections of the form with the raised seal of the state.
5Make copies of the power of attorney form for everyone to keep and file the original document away in a safe place.
